How to select a barcode scanner

- Jan 24, 2018 -

Select the barcode scanner before, to understand the scanning equipment of several main technical parameters, customers often ask some, here a little comprehensive to do some sorting, according to the requirements of the application, the selection of the applicable equipment against these parameters.

1. Resolution
For barcode scanning systems, the resolution is the width of the narrowest bar read in the correct detection, in English minimalbarwidth (abbreviated as MBW). When choosing a device, it is not the higher the device's braid ratio, but rather the scanner with the corresponding resolution based on the barcode density used in the application. In use, if the resolution of the selected device is too high, the stain on the stripe, deinking and so on will affect the system more seriously.

2. Scan depth
Scanning depth of field refers to the difference between the maximum distance that a scan head allows to leave the barcode surface and the scanner can approach the nearest point distance of the barcode surface, which is the effective working range of the barcode scanner, on the premise of ensuring reliable reading. Some barcode scanning equipment does not give the scanning depth index in the technical index, but gives the scanning distance, namely the shortest distance that the scanning head allows to leave the barcode surface.

3scanning width (scanwidth)
The scan width index refers to the physical length value of the barcode information that can be read by scanning the beam at a given scan distance.

4scanning speed (scanspeed)
The scanning speed is the scanning frequency of the scanning beam on the scanning track in unit time.

5a recognition rate
A recognition rate is the ratio of the number of labels read in the first scan to the total number of scanned labels. For example, if the information to read a barcode label needs to be scanned two times, the rate of one recognition is 50%. From the practical application point of view, of course, hope that each scan can pass, but unfortunately, due to a variety of factors, it is impossible to request a recognition rate of 100%.

It should be explained that the primary recognition rate is only suitable for handheld stylus scanning recognition. If the laser scanning mode, the beam to the barcode label scanning frequency up to hundreds of times per second, through the scan to obtain the signal is repeated.

6. ber
BER is an extremely important test indicator that reflects the error identification of a machine-identifiable label system. The error rate is equal to the ratio between the number of false recognition and the total number of recognition. For a barcode system, BER is a more serious problem than a low recognition rate.
